Juan pressed charges and I attained an attorney. I told my attorney, and Seth, so many lies, it was hard to keep track. I plead not guilty and my case was much stronger than Juan’s was. I lied and told my attorney he came over and attacked me because he was scared I would tell his wife he and I had an affair. I threw the grits on him because I was trying to defend myself. It was his word against mine, and with all of my evidence, the pictures, texts, and his deceitful affair, my case was stronger. Juan agreed to drop the charges and I was on cloud nine. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was that Juan put out a restraining order against me, but I did the same thing to him, with the persistence of my attorney.

I managed to keep my tattoo a secret from Seth. I didn’t walk around naked and I only made love to him in the dark. I knew if he saw it, it would be over and he was all I had left, I refused to lose him too.

Our relationship was strained and he was becoming more and more distant. He still didn’t know I had been fired and I managed to keep that a secret as well. When I would stay the night with him, I would get up and act as if I were going in to work, but instead, I would just go home and relax. I had not heard from Tia and I had been occupying my time by driving to Juan’s house late at night, or during the day, to watch his house. Then I would drive to Seth’s job and sit in the parking lot as well. I was obsessed and out of control. I was obsessed with Juan, as well as Seth, and I was exhausted trying to keep up with both of them. I knew I lost Juan, and I knew if I lost Seth, my world would fall apart.

“Where are you going?” I asked Seth.

He spun around, startled. He was getting dressed as I walked in his bedroom.

“How did you get in here?” He looked behind me. “Stephen?”

I held up my key chain. “No, I used my key”

“I never gave you a key, Isabella” He began to put on his shirt. “How did you get a key?”

“You had one extra, so I decided to use it. We’ve been together long enough, right?”

“I would give you one, if I wanted you to have one” He exhaled with annoyance. “Leave the key on the dresser”

“Why? Where are you going?”

“I’m going to a networking event, and because I asked you to. Leave the key on the dresser” He walked into his closet and snatched a tie off the tie rack. “Now, please”

“You didn’t want me to go with you?” I was stunned. “Everybody knows, all of your colleagues know we’re a couple. What will they think when I’m not with you?”

“They will think I decided to come alone” He stood in front of the floor length mirror and fixed his tie.
